A Healthy Curiosity

Exploring self-care strategies, personal evolution, Chinese Medicine, and what it takes to be well in a busy world. You know that health and happiness aren’t things you can outsource. You’ve also got a full plate, and making the time to take care of yourself can be challenging. A Healthy Curiosity is here to support you. Host Brodie Welch, L.Ac., is an expert in Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, as well as a teacher and practitioner of qi gong, meditation, yoga, lifestyle and diet counseling who tries to walk her talk about health and mindfulness as a recovering Type-A, parent, and business owner. You'll find interviews with fellow experts in Chinese Medicine and natural health care about the conditions we treat and strategies we use clinically; simple self-care tips to help you feel calm, centered, and energized; and personal chats where we explore what gets in the way of our best intentions: perfectionism, big goals, habits and routines, chronic pain, overwork and overwhelm, boundaries, limiting beliefs — and what it takes to overcome such obstacles mindfully.

Reversing Autoimmune Disease

with Dr. Terry Wahls

Autoimmune diseases are on the rise, but Dr. Terry Wahls recovered from near paralysis by changing her diet. On today’s episode, learn about:

  • what minerals protect our cells from autoimmune diseases
  • how to preserve brain health with diet and lifestyle
  • the importance of social connection and a sense of purpose to our health

Through her research and personal experience with progressive MS, Dr. Terry Wahls found that modifying the paleo diet and emphasizing dark, leafy greens, grassfed or wildcaught meat, deeply pigmented plants (beets, carrots, berries), and healthy fats supports health on a cellular level. Today, she explains the science behind cellular nutrition and why it's more difficult now than ever to eat a healthy diet.

Dr. Terry Wahls is a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa. She is the author of The Wahls Protocol: How I Beat Progressive MS Using Paleo Principles and Functional Medicine and the cookbook The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life: The Revolutionary Modern Paleo Plan to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions. Listen to Dr. Wahls’ amazing story and discover what foods hold the keys to slowing neurologic decline and aging, reducing mental health symptoms, and improving our kids’ performance in school. You can learn more about her work from her website, www.terrywahls.com, and download her Wahls Diet Cheat Sheet here

Dr. Terry Wahls also hosts the Wahls Protocol Seminar every August where anyone can learn how to implement the Protocol with ease and success. Follow her on Facebook (Terry Wahls MD), on Instagram @drterrywahls, and on Twitter at @TerryWahls. Learn more about her MS clinical trials by reaching out to her team via this email: MSDietStudy@healthcare.uiowa.edu.
