A Healthy Curiosity

Exploring strategies for holistic health, happiness, and personal evolution: what it takes to be well in a busy world. Blending the wisdom of Chinese Medicine, functional medicine, Ayurveda, neuroscience and psychology, you'll get practical tips you can use right away. You know that health and happiness aren’t things you can outsource. You’ve also got a full plate, you're a giver, and making the time to take care of yourself can be challenging. A Healthy Curiosity is here to support you. Host Brodie Welch, L.Ac., is an expert in Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, a holistic health coach, as well as a teacher and practitioner of qi gong, meditation, yoga, lifestyle and diet counseling who tries to walk her talk about health and mindfulness as a recovering Type-A, parent, and business owner. You'll find interviews with fellow experts in Chinese Medicine and natural health care about the conditions we treat and strategies we use clinically; simple self-care tips to help you feel calm, centered, and energized; and personal chats where we explore what gets in the way of our best intentions: perfectionism, big goals, habits and routines, chronic pain, overwork and overwhelm, boundaries, limiting beliefs — and what it takes to overcome such obstacles mindfully. While not strictly an acupuncture / Chinese Medicine podcast, it's not "not" an acupuncture podcast.

Today we’re discussing one of the scariest diagnoses out there – one that has the potential to shut us down or become a true turning point in life: cancer. This is a topic that hits home personally for me as I have worked with a number of people who are dealing with cancer in both early and late stages. It’s something that can instill fear and paralysis in people. My guest is Kirstin Nussgruber who is a cancer survivor herself. She shares her powerful survival story and her unique insight into transforming our relationship with cancer.

Kirstin is an empathetic cancer mentor, speaker and educator who is passionate about helping people get out of cancer overwhelm by teaching them how to reclaim their lives. A two-time cancer survivor herself, she learned first hand the importance of an integrative approach to one’s health to facilitate true healing. She offers individualized mentoring, can be hired for inspirational speaking engagements and offers interactive virtual programs such as the Beyond Cancer Program™. She is also the bestselling author of “Confessions of a Cancer Conqueror – My 5 Step Process to Transform Your Relationship with Cancer.”

“It’s important to be open to sharing emotions. We don’t need to shield our kids from emotions. We need to be able to show them emotions, talk to them about those emotions and let them have them as well without us judging them.” – Kirstin Nussgruber

  • Kirstin’s inspiring survival story.
  • First steps in dealing with the news that you have been diagnosed with cancer.

Today we’re discussing energy – not in the Chinese Medicine sense of the word, but how to find more of it. The lack of energy is something that comes up often with many of the people I work with and it’s something we have all felt at one time or another. My guest Evan Hirsch will shed some light on the difference between feeling tired and chronic fatigue and how we can fix it in our own personal way.

Dr. Evan, as he is affectionately known, is the best selling author of Fix Your Fatigue: The 4 step process to resolving chronic fatigue, achieving abundant energy and reclaiming your life! He is one of the nation’s leaders on finding the root causes of chronic fatigue and resolving them. Dr. Evan suffered with chronic fatigue himself for 5 years before he achieved resolution using the Fix Your Fatigue Program that he developed at the Hirsch Center for Integrative Medicine in Olympia, Washington. He has helped hundreds of people resolve their chronic fatigue and is on a mission to help 100,000 more through his blog, online courses, books, 1-on-1 consults and the training of providers.

“It is so important for people to step into their own power. For them to realize how important self-care is and that they deserve it. You don’t get better until you prioritize yourself.” – Dr. Evan Hirsch

On Today’s Episode of A Healthy Curiosity:

  • Why are we so tired?
  • 15 different causes or “usual suspects” of fatigue.
  • What things we can do to avoid overloading ourselves with toxins that can overburden us and cause fatigue.
  • Is there a commonly overlooked cause of fatigue?
  • A test you can do on your own for infection.
  • Why exercising can become a vicious cycle for fatigue and how to avoid that cycle.
  • How much of the fatigue we feel relates to mold that we don’t realize exists in our homes and places of work.
  • What is the difference between fatigue and chronic fatigue?
  • Is there something more specific that we should all know about when it comes to chronic fatigue?

In this episode, we dive deep into the topic of chronic pain, specifically how and why it affects some more than others. We also explore the biofield and its significance in all kinds of different mind and body issues. We’ll also talk about why it is that our good intentions don’t always match up with our daily actions.

My guest today is Deborah Wayne, who is the founder of The Pain Free Living Program, an internationally-known energy healer and pain-release expert whose specialty is helping people rapidly remove the hidden causes for Pain, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Binge-Eating, Addictions, and more. She is the #1 Bestselling Author of “Why Do I Still Hurt?" and has earned degrees and certifications in Psychology, Hypnotherapy and Chemical Dependency Counseling. Deborah has 30 years teaching Meditation, is a nationally recognized Fine Artist, a former professional Modern Dancer, a Certified Yoga Instructor, and Director of the Biofield Healing Institute™.

“I have found that in every situation where there is some kind of pain or problematic issue, there is always an emotional, mental or psychological component to it. Always. They are not separate” – Deborah Wayne

On Today’s Episode of A Healthy Curiosity:

  • Why is it that some people have to live with chronic pain and others don’t?
  • Is there always an underlying emotional or psychological issue that relates to chronic physical pain?
  • What do we know about the science of the biofield? Is it measurable? Is it just a matter of belief?
  • How can people get in touch with what’s happening in the biofield? How can we work with it?
  • Can anyone work with the biofield?
  • How does working with the biofield help us bridge the gap between what we’re doing now and what we’d like to be doing?
  • A good first step for those of us who are ready to start working more closely with our emotions.
