A Healthy Curiosity

Exploring strategies for holistic health, happiness, and personal evolution: what it takes to be well in a busy world. Blending the wisdom of Chinese Medicine, functional medicine, Ayurveda, neuroscience and psychology, you'll get practical tips you can use right away. You know that health and happiness aren’t things you can outsource. You’ve also got a full plate, you're a giver, and making the time to take care of yourself can be challenging. A Healthy Curiosity is here to support you. Host Brodie Welch, L.Ac., is an expert in Chinese Medicine and acupuncture, a holistic health coach, as well as a teacher and practitioner of qi gong, meditation, yoga, lifestyle and diet counseling who tries to walk her talk about health and mindfulness as a recovering Type-A, parent, and business owner. You'll find interviews with fellow experts in Chinese Medicine and natural health care about the conditions we treat and strategies we use clinically; simple self-care tips to help you feel calm, centered, and energized; and personal chats where we explore what gets in the way of our best intentions: perfectionism, big goals, habits and routines, chronic pain, overwork and overwhelm, boundaries, limiting beliefs — and what it takes to overcome such obstacles mindfully. While not strictly an acupuncture / Chinese Medicine podcast, it's not "not" an acupuncture podcast.

Put Your Oxygen Mask on First

with Carly Banks

On Today’s Episode of A Healthy Curiosity, you’ll learn about:

  • Becoming a successful role model
  • The trickle-down benefits of prioritizing your own wellbeing
  • Self-care for kids
  • Establishing the new norm
  • Developing your emotional intelligence

In learning the foundational teachings of Ayurvedic wellness, along with the science behind the power of routine, and the unbelievable level at which our habits - good and bad - dictate our reality, Carly Banks has created routines and daily practices that fill her cup, thereby filling up her kids. The habits she’s picked up along her journey, and translated into the new normal for her whole family, have yielded HUGE results, in so many ways, in a SUPER SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME. Her purpose at www.thehabit.net has become sharing what she’s learned with every woman she can reach, because every mom deserves to feel this good.

How to Change Habits

with James Clear

On Today’s Episode of A Healthy Curiosity, you’ll learn about:

  • The connection between identity, beliefs, and habits
  • Identity-based vs outcome based habits
  • 4 laws of behavior change
  • The cumulative progress of small actions
  • Reframing your worldview

Whatever you’re wanting to get better at, today’s episode is going to help you do it better and more efficiently.

I’m thrilled to have James Clear with me to talk about the tool we use to solve the problems of life with as little effort and energy as possible. That tool, of course, is habits.

This is a subject that I became intensely focused on several years ago when I realized that it wasn’t enough to teach my clients how to do things like meditate, breathe, and nourish themselves with whole foods; I needed to teach them how to form good habits, hence my evolution from being a practitioner to coaching people on how to actually implement the core competencies of self-care.

James Clear is author and speaker focused on habits, decision-making, and continuous improvement. His work has appeared in the New York Times, Entrepreneur, Time, and on CBS This Morning. His website, jamesclear.com, receives millions of visitors each month and hundreds of thousands (including me) subscribe to his popular email newsletter. He is also a regular speaker at Fortune 500 companies and his work is used by teams in the NFL, NBA, and MLB.

Through his online course, The Habits Academy, Clear has taught more than 10,000 leaders, managers, coaches, and teachers.

Healing the Psyche with Chinese Herbs

with Justin Ehrlich

On Today’s Episode of A Healthy Curiosity, you’ll learn about:

  • Chinese medicine on a physical and spiritual level
  • How herbs channel energy and open our perspective
  • Herbs for personal cultivation
  • Cleansing wounds and resolving trauma
  • Which herbal strategy is right for you?

Drawn to many of the mystical practices that originated in ancient China for most of my life, Justin has been a California state licensed acupuncturist since 2002 and a student of the Jade Purity branch of Daoism since 2001.

After many years of questioning the nature of reality, and using these practices to work through his own struggles, heal old wounds, and find a deeper connection to the Divine, he's personally seen just how powerful and transformative this path can be.

Justin has studied a multitude of practices, including medicines, meditation, philosophy, mindfulness-based practices, and religion. He implements these practically as a coach and Chinese medicine practitioner.

Food Sanity

with Dr. David Friedman

On Today’s Episode of A Healthy Curiosity, you’ll learn about:

  • Separating food fact from fiction
  • Diet is a way of living, not a short-term solution
  • How the change in culture has affected national health
  • Where is best to source your food
  • Don't count calories, make your calories count!

Has all the contradicting information about what we should and shouldn’t eat left you confused? Lifetime television’s morning show health expert and syndicated radio host, Dr. David Friedman (as seen on ABC, CBS, NBC, E!, Discovery Health, FOX, FitTV, The Food Network, Discovery Channel and more) has spent the past 15 years interviewing hundreds of health advocates, scientists, doctors and New York Times bestselling authors.

His goal has always been to share cutting-edge information that helps his audience reach optimal health. Unfortunately, each guest would contradict Dr. Friedman's previous expert, creating more confusion than clarity. From proponents of a vegan, paleo, or Mediterranean diet to advocates of gluten-free and low carb eating, the opinions are as different as night and day. After becoming frustrated with so much biased (often paid for) and conflicting research, Dr. Friedman created a common science meets common sense approach that puts an end to all the culinary conundrum.
